Ronnie Tells Kim Poh To Stop Making Baseless Accusation
SHAH ALAM, Sept 11 (Bernama) — Selangor Local Government, Study and Research Committee Chairman Ronnie Liu has told former Pandamaran assemblyman Datuk Teh Kim Poh to stop making baseless accusations against him.
He said that if Teh continued to attack him personally, he would not hesitate to dislose the ex-assemblyman’s attendance record when he was Klang Municipal Council (MPK) member under the previous Barisan Nasional government.
On Wednesday, Teh accused Liu of negligence when selecting local government councillors which led to the resignation of MPK member Yap Beng Lee early this week.
Liu said Yap’s resignation clearly proved the quality of local councillors appointed by the Pakatan Rakyat government and he quit on his own accord after finding it difficult to carry out his responsibilities.
“Previously, we saw many councillors who were unable to do their work, did not attend meetings or did not safeguard the people’s interests remained in their seats.”
He told reporters this after Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim presented appointed letters to 74 Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) chairmen here.
Liu said he had received Yap’s resignation letter but yet to approve it.
It is believed that among the reasons Yap handed in his resignation letter was because councillors’ allowances were too low.
On the allowance issue, Liu said the state government would probably raise the amount which he admitted was low.
He said the previous state government had raised the monthly allowance from RM500 to RM700 for members of urban councils and from RM300 to RM500 for members of local councils in rural areas.
A councillor also receives RM100 each time he attends a meeting.
“Any increase in the future will take into account the performance of the councillors and the state government’s financial position,” Liu said.
