KUALA LUMPUR: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang will convene a meeting of all MPS regardless of party at Parliament House on Wednesday for a “Free MP Teresa Kok” caucus.
He urged all ministers and MPs to come forward and declare their stand on the detention of the Seputeh MP under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
“All ministers and MPs should be concerned about this.
“Parliament should not take the detention of an MP lightly because not only is this about human rights, it also concerns the integrity and efficacy of the parliamentary democracy system,” Lim told reporters outside the courthouse in Jalan Duta on Monday.
Kok’s lawyer had filed an application for a writ of habeas corpus seeking her release from detention.
According to Lim, who is also MP for Ipoh Timur, Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of parliament affairs Datuk Seri Nazri Abd Aziz had been notified of the meeting.
He also said an emergency motion on the issue should be debated when Parliament reconvenes on Oct 13.
