KEPALA BATAS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said there was no reason for him to meet opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss the alleged crossover of members of parliament.

“If he has the names, he should reveal them.

“Let all Malaysians know… the voters also want to know. They want to know whether their MP is running away and joining a party which they had no intention to vote for,” he said.

Abdullah said he would not meet Anwar to discuss the matter as the latter was capable of making up stories later on.

“That is why I have no intention of meeting him. If he meets me, he will later make up stories and say I have agreed to this and that.”
Abdullah was speaking after giving out aid to the needy in conjunction with the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri at a function organised by Yayasan Budi Penyayang here.

The prime minister also dismissed as crazy claims that the government would declare a state of emergency or arrest defecting MPs under the Internal Security Act.

“He (Anwar) is just trying to make it look as though we are dictators,” he said.

Asked point blank if he was still in command of the government, Abdullah said: “Of course, I am. Turmoil will happen and we will handle them one by one.”

Earlier in Putrajaya, Abdullah said if Anwar had enough MPs behind him, he would not be seeking a meeting with him.

“He’ll storm into my room with hundreds following behind him, screaming victory,” Abdullah said.

“But, there is no such thing and after this, I bet he will be thinking about a new date,” he said.

In calling Anwar’s bluff, Abdullah said the much-publicised take-over plan was merely the opposition leader’s dream.

Abdullah said he had never felt pressured by Anwar’s claims.

“Why should I be pressured? This is Anwar’s mirage… he’ll say something when there is nothing.”

Sharing with media on the Anwar that he knew, Abdullah said it was typical of Anwar to continuously create an issue out of nothing to capture the attention of his audiences.

“I’ve known him for a very long time. He does this so that scores of people would turn up to hear his speech. But then at the end of the day, there is nothing,” he said.

Countering Anwar’s claim that he had more than 31 Barisan Nasional MPs crossing over and his plan to meet him, Abdullah said the Anwar he knew would have made announcements if that was the case.

“If he had something, he would have announced it already and the whole world would have known by now. You think he will be requesting for a discussion with me?”

Abdullah urged the people to stop falling into the trap of lies by Anwar, telling them to expect to hear more of Anwar announcing new dates for the take-over.

“The dates (on the supposed government change) will keep changing.

“That is Anwar in politics. There is nothing there, but the people are awed by him anyway,” he said.
